The Property Road-Show will display items seized by police that are strongly suspected to have been stolen; the public is invited to view the property to see if they recognise them. The Road-Show is an opportunity to have this property returned to the rightful owner.
The next event is happening on
- Saturday October 15th 2011
- Hendon Library, The Burroughs NW4 4BT
- between 10:00 am and 4pm.
At the first Road-Show in Golders Green a woman recognised a jewellery box as one stolen from her house. Officers confirmed her details and a further 22 items were eventually restored to this victim.
At the last Road-Show in August this year a number of items of religious and personal significance were returned to two victims. As a result of confirming the property was stolen, police were able to charge eight people with an offence of burglary.
Acquisitive Crime Manager DCI Iain Raphael said:
“This is a real opportunity to try to re-unite the victims of crime with their prized possessions. It is sadly a frequent occurrence that we retrieve property that we know has been stolen, but cannot find the rightful owners. In many cases it is also clear that the property is valuable – not just in the monetary sense, but also emotionally, so it is a real shame to see it sitting in our property store or being sent to auction”
Police will be able to process claims with greater speed if you bring the original crime report number you were given when you first reported your crime.
