Local East Finchley councillor Andrew McNeil announced his resignation earlier today after serving Barnet Council for almost six years.
Elected in May 2006 the Labour Councillor is stepping down to move to Northern Ireland to be closer to his daughter who is expecting a baby this summer.“I am very sorry to be leaving East Finchley, which is a beautiful and challenging ward and one in which I have been proud to serve.”
Alison Moore, Leader of Barnet Labour Group said:“Andrew has been a hugely committed councillor in East Finchley ward, in the Town Hall and in his roles as a school governor, trustee of Barnet Carers and a volunteer with the East Finchley Advice Service. “In spite of his more recent health problems, Andrew has made significant contributions as Labour Group Chief Whip, on the Area Environment Committee and on the Health and Social Care Scrutiny Committee for which he has a real passion.
His resignation is likely to be followed by a by-election in the East Finchley Ward.
