Green Man install Womery in new vegetable garden

Strawberry Vale Gardening Group were excited this morning with the arrival of their new Womery.

It will be located in the new vegetable garden that the group have created at the side of the Green Man Community Centre, and arrangements have been made with Age Uk Barnet to start recycling some of the food waste that they produce whilst preparing dinners for the Tuesday Lunch Club.

“It’s absolutely fabulous” said Mark Healey, Centre Manager. “It’s good to be able to start recycling some of the food waste that is produced at the centre, and put it to good use feeding the worms who in turn will create fertiliser for our garden. I like the synergy that this creates between the gardening group and the lunch club – it’s cool to get them working together”.

And it does not stop there – the garden group are in discussions with two other groups that also use the centre on Tuesdays. Barnet Lone Parent Centre who run 3rd Space Tuesday afternoons are planning to organise a Sunflower growing competition, and it is hoped that the Woodcraft Folk will also get involved too.

The gardening group meet most Tuesdays from 4pm at the centre. Contact Sandra or Mark for more details.
