The Centre will be closed for refurbishment from 1st April 2013 to 6th April 2013. The Centre will be newly painted and carpeted for the benefit of all users. The new Centre Administrators’ office is also having a long overdue facelift now it is back in regular use.
As many of you know we have been working hard over the last year to give local people access to the Computer Room. Many people have benefitted from this access, whether to get online for the first time, shop, look for a job or just keep in touch with friends/ family using social media like Facebook.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We would love to have the Computer Room open every day for local people to use and to get help starting if they are new to computers. However, we can only provide this free access with the help of volunteers, to supervise the space and assist users.
Thanks to local volunteers such as Gary Connelly and Sandra Docherty we can offer Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. With your help we could be offering more.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Patrick on 020 7021 4784. Anyone with basic IT knowledge or specialist IT skills you would like to share with others, we will also be delighted to hear from you.
Tuesday and Wednesday Afternoons:
General access, but particularly useful for beginners wishing to study online courses at their own pace.
On Wednesday mornings our friends from the Richmond Fellowship manage the room to help people looking for work to search online and develop their CV’s.
Well done to the Green Man Management Committee and all the volunteers who helped out at the Strawberry Vale Diamond Jubilee celebrations a few weeks ago.
Good news is we raised £202.00 for Help for Heroes.
The East Finchley Safer Neighbourhood Team along with the Metropolitan Police Cycle Task Force team are holding a free bike marking event in conjunction with www.bikeregister.com outside East Finchley Tube Station on
Wednesday 27th June 2012 between 7.45am to 10.00am
Having your bike marked will increase the chance of it being returned to you in the event of it being lost or stolen.
Hi we are Ricky and Naphtal, the Networx volunteers who teach adults IT skills at the Green Man Community Centre. We are here every Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm to help people get online. If you have any questions please feel free to pop along and say hello.
Some good news for Strawberry Vale Residents – the Richmond Fellowship in partnership with Peabody and the Green Man are launching a job club for local residents.
Centre Manager Mark Healey said:
“I am really excited and pleased to see this new Jobclub starting at the centre because I know just how much it is needed by some of the local residents that use the centre. Since we opened our computer room earlier in the year we have had a constant flow of people popping in to use our facilities – in particular local young people from the Strawberry Vale estate who are actively looking for work. Now at last we can hopefully provide them with some positive support and encouragement.”
It has been a fantastic long weekend for most people on the Strawberry Vale estate as neighbours came together to enjoy the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations with a massive party held at the Green Man Community Centre.
The Green Man Management Group (GMMG) and an army of volunteers have been extremely busy preparing for the big day, ordering decorations, cooking food, planning tables and activities.
Thanks to Gary, Chris, David and Tom who got to work putting up the street bunting. Meanwhile the rest of the team of volunteers were helping to set things up in the main hall.
Thanks to Peabody for providing £500 towards the costs of the party, along with the 150 year printed plates, knapkins and table covers.
Everyone got a warm welcome and a chance to have their photo taken with Paddington the Bear as they arrived. There was a magician doing card tricks and the local cadets lent a hand.
Upstairs in the GMMG meeting room tables were set up for face painting and nail bars.
And across the hall way Rachel, Sandra and other volunteers were organising arts and crafts tables.
And outside in the back garden we set up more tables and a Bouncy Castle.
So open the doors and let’s get the party started…
Thanks to everyone who came along and made the event such a success.
